The fair holds for three days, crème la crème of the society, which includes celebrities, role models and most especially, authors and poets, as resource persons, speakers and guests to speak to the children and visitors on our theme for the book fair, which is usually on something the children can relate to. Children from both Primary and Secondary schools across Lagos state and outside, are invited through their schools to come along with their parents, teachers and family members to the fair and each child receives a book and other gifts from RFDI as a token. Parents/Teachers Workshop
There are three categories of that influence a child in the course of his development; his parents at home, his teachers in school and his peers both at home and in school. To borrow a line from Reading is Fundamental, “ When you empower parents, you empower children” That’s exactly the principle we try to develop with our parent/teachers workshop. At these workshops parents learn ways and means they can get their kids to love books. They are taught how to read aloud to their children and how this could also be a special time for bonding with their children. Teachers are taught how to make the most of the library period in their schools to get their pupils reading and how to identify the type of books the children liked. It usually holds on a Saturday with parents, teachers and relevant personalities like Guidance Counselors and Psychologists, in coming together to discuss and formulate ways to enhance a reading culture in our children, it’s a very relaxed atmosphere with trays of tea and coffee and snacks.
